Haa~ Well, another class assignment. We were given a piece of clothing (or two) and a colour palette and had to make both of them work for an illustration in a 'difficult' format.
I'm relatively pleased with this (minus wonky facial proportions that we'll pretend don't exist). I'm not so good with digital art so most of this was me dicking around in Photoshop. XP
I got graded down on this because it's done in an anime style (seriously, that's the reason ). I don't know if you guys knew this, but anime isn't art and art is SERIOUS BUSINESS U GUYS. e_e
Never mind that the class is called Colour For Illustrators. Emphasis on the colour theory part of it, as it is a COLOUR THEORY CLASS. Not that style should matter in ANY class, but this teacher is a particular hardass about the style you work in. As my friend put it, she has an idea of what she wants you to draw in her mind - she won't tell you what it is - but if you don't draw what she imagines, she has a problem with your work. She won't tell you what the problem is in critique, but you'll find out you got graded down even if she gushes about how much she loooOOoooves it.
Serious.
She left a tracing paper sheet on top of this piece while I was out of the room with it redrawn EXACTLY THE SAME WAY except in a "realistic" style. How passive aggressive is that?!
Well I think it's adorable, it's very springy and I love the colours. Your teacher is a jerk-face. It reminds me of one of my middle school art classes in which my teacher said "are you Japanese? then why are you drawing in anime" uhm....O.o;;

Well, *I* love your style. Also, I have an idea for a book. A children's book. And I've tested the story on some 2-3 year olds and they all love it, so all I have to do is figure out how to write it down correctly and draw it. The problem is I know what Stinky Cheese and Sneaky Cheese look like (shutupit'sachildren'sbook) but I don't know how to draw a children's book. You said you wanted to team up for something like this, and my aunt is still friends with the VP in Scholastic...interested?
Oh, and did I tell you about the girl who drew a beautiful anime girl and dragon for her final and got totally ripped apart in my art class, and how I drew *FLOWERS* and got an A? Yeah. Fuck you too, art world.
I love the soft shading. ^^ Especially the coloring on the brunette's hair- its' so soft.

Drawing is the honesty of the art. There is no possibility of cheating. It is either good or bad.
I can't believe someone who is supposed to be an art teacher would be so closed-minded as to down grade you because you drew this in anime style. That's complete bullshit.
I love the piece however, it looks so fresh and spring-y and happy. Gotta love all those greens.
Yeah, but it's Linda, and she's too set in her ways. >_> And anime is not Real Artwork That Illustrators Should Be Using. Bah, five years from now when the world is overrun with anime, she can bite me.
-- It's so crazy; you walked into the room that day, just like every other day...except this time...my heart skipped a beat.
Sad but true, this is the way most teachers think about anime. But other cartooning is okay. Just as long as it's not under Japanese influence, because this is America and we should be patriotic or some shit.
