Digimon Tarot: The Foolby ~nakira

So this is my new project: Digimon Tarot Cards. :0

I really want to do all 78 of them but I’m not sure how realistic that is.. For now I’m just doing the Major Arcana.

Starting off with “0 The Fool”.

I’ll try not to ramble but here’s a very short explanation of why I made the choices for this card that I did:
I chose Flamon to be The Fool card mostly because of the association he has with Takuya. In doing research behind the symbolism and meaning of the Tarot cards, I read someone likening the Major Arcana to the Hero’s Journey. All the characters of the Major Arcana are characters that The Fool will encounter and learn from. Takuya’s journey through the real world as Flamon is one of those very great Hero’s Journey moments, haha. Flamon without the association to Takuya is, to me, a Digimon that feels like an impulsive hero.

The Fool is the very beginning of that Major Arcana ‘story’, where the ignorant hero starts off on his adventure - standing over a cliff as though about to walk off, with a dog nipping at his heels. Obvs had to be Labramon.

Just as a disclaimer, not all the Digimon I use are going to be from the anime. It’s easy to associate certain cards with certain characters (I.E. The Moon = Dianamon, The High Priestess = Sakyuamon — too BORING) but I’m gonna try to look past the superficial associations into something a little more meaningful.

Out of curiosity, would anyone even be interested in buying a pack of all 78 cards? Was gonna go $50 for them if I did it at all. They’d be double sided. Otherwise I’ll just sell the Major Arcana cards as a tiled print at conventions.

xD Well, I'm definitely gonna start with the major arcana and at least make a print of it! Who knows, maybe I'll do all of them. IDK... It depends on how much time I have!

If they're all going to be roughly this quality or better (meaning, as you rush through cards you don't deplete quality...xD) and as long as Frontier is well-represented, I'd probably be very interested in buying a tarot deck featuring these cards, provided I got to see all of them first. Were you considering making them actual physical cards? And is there a possibility of you adding some kind of border for them, with the name of the card on them as well? I've always loved tarot cards and the intricacy of their meaning, and adding Digimon to that, (especially Frontier...^^) nabs my interest two-fold.

I'm really hoping to get all the seasons and some of the card-represented Digimon in there pretty evenly... but somehow despite that, I feel like most of them are Frontier-related. >.> XD So I think you're set. Hahahaha.

I'd definitely be making them into physical cards. They may be smallish, just to save on ink and paper costs. They'd be double-sided and they would definitely have the border around them with the names (and some symbolism unique to each card) - I want to get the cards done first to preserve that unity, and worry about the borders afterward (also to preserve the unity of the design). C:

So far there really doesn't look like there's a ton of interest in them, so I'm not sure I'll end up making all 78 cards. For now I'm gonna do the major arcana with the borders, and probably sell it as a print. Unfortunately since I do inkjet prints in house, doing all 78 cards for ~5-10 people would cost an arm and a leg. Like $150+. :/ :/ I really don't think people would pay that for Digimon tarot cards, you know? I'd like to keep it around $50, and that'd require a bit more interest..

Digimon Tarot! Flamon makes a surprisingly good "Fool". The design is very crisp and clean looking. Cannot wait to see what other Digimon you'll choose for the rest of the Tarot. I'd definitely buy a pack if it this cards any indication of the overall quality. Was it intentional that Labramon sort of looks like he wants to push Flamon off the cliff or is that just me?

"He is frequently accompanied by a dog, sometimes seen as his animal desires, sometimes as the call of the "real world", nipping at his heels and distracting him. He is seemingly unconcerned that he is standing on a precipice, apparently about to step off."

I've also read that the dog can symbolize an impulsive influence, leading him in directions that may not necessarily be for the best. C:
